Robert Hyde of RHEnergy - Energy Consultants

Robert Hyde has wide experience of Industrial Energy Management, Energy Efficiency and Energy Systems Analysis. His experience was gained initially in manufacturing industry with particular emphasis on cost-effective investment and the introduction of low-cost conservation measures.

Prior to entering consultancy, he was an active member of the Energy Management Movement and was highly commended in the 1982 Energy Manager of the Year Award.

His areas of specialist expertise and interest include techno-economic consultancy, energy management, energy efficiency in industrial and commercial plant and buildings, applied thermodynamics, combined heat and power, district heating and cooling, incineration and the provision of expert witness services and due diligence services, with experience of health service and PFI projects.

Until 2003 he was responsible for technical leadership of Arup’s global energy consultancy business and for a wide range of projects concerned with the efficient conversion and utilisation of energy. He has been a registered consultant for the Carbon Trust and is currently involved with a large multinational in establishing an energy business.

Study for the Department of Energy into the economic potential for industrial CHP in the United Kingdom, published as Energy Efficiency Series No.7, 1988

Feasibility and scheme design of a 25 MWe coal fired CHP based energy centre for San Miguel’s Brewery project at Baoding in China.

Responsible for energy efficiency surveys and provision of strategic energy advice to a wide range of clients in the industrial, commercial and public sectors. Project Director for a term contract with Defence Estates for specialist energy advice, including surveys and options studies covering wide range of Defence premises in the UK and overseas. This included direction and execution of an extensive and detailed survey of defence premises and associated infrastructure across the Falkland Islands.

Thermo-economic Analysis

Thermo-economic Analysis

Development of mass and energy balance calculation procedures for combustion modelling and thermo-economic modelling of waste-to-energy plant, gas and steam turbine CHP plant, cooling towers, chimneys and plume abatement. He has recently undertaken the development of an expert system for the design and off-design analysis of CCGT/CHP systems and a range of other CHP design and optimisation tools.

Feasibility, design and environmental studies for various power generation projects up to 1800 MW. Design check and subsequent supervision of construction and refurbishment of large natural draught cooling towers.

Waste

Waste

Process optimisation and technical, environmental and economic feasibility advice to clients engaged in waste disposal or development, construction and modification of waste-to-energy (WtE) projects. Feasibility, scheme design and detail design of several clinical waste incineration plants, including the first successful facility in the UK operating in CHP mode.

Expert Witness

Expert Witness

Provision of expert witness services in connection with technical and contractual disputes involving power station construction, operation and refurbishment; clinical and other waste incineration projects and general mechanical services installations. Clinical waste disposal and incineration facilities include Gloucester Royal Hospital, Southmead Hospital, Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital, Hammersmith Hospital. Expert witness experience also covers a large waste-to-energy plant, an animal remains incinerator and a landfill gas based power plant.
